Learn More about us

Intermediate Orchestra

For young musicians typically aged 11 to 16, the Intermediate Orchestra introduces students to full symphonic repertoire. Members build ensemble skills and confidence through weekly rehearsals and several public performances each season.

Senior Orchestra

Designed for advanced high school and post-secondary students up to age 24, the Senior Orchestra explores complex works from major composers. It offers high-level training and frequent opportunities to perform in premier concert venues.

Understanding the Audition Process for Our Youth Orchestra

Joining the Edmonton Youth Orchestra is an exciting opportunity to grow as a musician, perform with peers, and learn from top instructors. We welcome dedicated players of orchestral instruments between the ages of 11 and 24 to audition for the upcoming season. Auditions are held by video submission to make the process simple and accessible.

1. Prepare Your Audition Material

Choose and rehearse your required solo and orchestral excerpts.

2. Record Your Video

Film your audition following the EYO guidelines for submissions.

3. Send Your Submission

Email your video and completed forms to the EYO by the posted deadline.

Audition Process

Percussionists:

If you would prefer to audition in person and use EYO percussion equipment, please contact the EYO office at 780-569-5290 or email eyo@shaw.ca to schedule a time.

If you are able to submit a video-recorded audition, simply follow the standard video submission process outlined below.

All Other Instruments:

Select and prepare a short piece that features contrasting sections (2 to 5 minutes in length). Piano accompaniment is not required.

Record your audition as one continuous, uninterrupted video clip without any edits. Minor background noise, such as a doorbell, does not require restarting unless it significantly impacts sound quality.

Upload your completed video to YouTube (unlisted setting recommended) and ensure your full name is included in the title of the video.

Send the YouTube video link to eyo@shaw.ca.

Important Notes:

The deadline for audition submissions is May 30, 2025. All auditions will be reviewed by a panel that includes the EYO Music Director and professional musicians from the community.

Audition results will be communicated via email by the end of June 2025.

Accepted members must submit membership fees by the first rehearsal in September via cheque, cash, or e-transfer to eyo@shaw.ca.
