about

Our Orchestras

The Edmonton Youth Orchestra offers two ensembles—Intermediate and Senior—designed to match each musician’s skill level and experience. Both groups provide a rich, challenging, and rewarding musical environment under the direction of Music Director Michael Massey.

Learn More about us

Intermediate Orchestra

For young musicians typically aged 11 to 16, the Intermediate Orchestra introduces students to full symphonic repertoire. Members build ensemble skills and confidence through weekly rehearsals and several public performances each season.

Senior Orchestra

Designed for advanced high school and post-secondary students up to age 24, the Senior Orchestra explores complex works from major composers. It offers high-level training and frequent opportunities to perform in premier concert venues.

Fees

Membership in the Edmonton Youth Orchestra is by audition and open to players of orchestral instruments including strings, winds, brass, percussion, and harp. Annual fees help cover instruction, venue costs, and music rentals, with financial assistance available to ensure access for all committed musicians.

The Volunteer Commitment Fee supports the Edmonton Youth Orchestra's operations as a volunteer-driven, non-profit organization. Families who complete their volunteer commitment will have their $225 reimbursed. If volunteer positions are unavailable or a family chooses not to volunteer, the fee is treated as a donation and a tax receipt will be issued.

A bursary program is also available to assist young musicians who require financial support to participate.

Volunteer information

The EYO relies on the support of volunteers to keep our programs running smoothly. From concert setup to administrative support, parent involvement is key to our continued success. Opportunities are available throughout the season for those who want to contribute.

Volunteer Commitment Payment

A volunteer commitment payment of $225 is required from each family by the first rehearsal of the season. Upon completion of a family's volunteer commitment this $225 is reimbursed. Where volunteer positions are not available or a family opts to donate their volunteer commitment fee, in lieu of volunteering, a donation receipt for income tax purposes is provided.
